Dermafill Microbial Cellulose Wound Dressing

82 Y/O Male

HX of alcohol abuse, CHF, Coumadin therapy

Patient went through windshield in car accident and landed on asphalt - Broken bones, contusions, requiring extended hospitalization - De-gloved left hand with tendon involvement




Wound cleansed prior to DermaFill application

  • Patient refused to have ring removed



Day 4

  • Dressing in place and ring became loose, in fact wiggling in place
  • Patient continued to state hand was free of pain



Day 7

  • Dressing removed by staff fearing underlying exudate was infection
  • Wound revealed lack of signs and symptoms of infection and presented with a clean granular wound bed



Day 9

  • Dressing replaced x 48 hours
  • Note: Plasma and other bioactive agents accumulate under dressing



Day 12

  • The dressing is re-sealed and clear, allowing an unobstructed view of the healing process
  • Note: return of veins



4 week follow-up

  • DermaFill still clear allowing staff to chart progress
  • As the wound heals and contracts, the dressing liberates itself



11 week follow-up

  • Patient states last of dressing fell off three weeks earlier
